Pat is Dead
According to sources close to the band, Pat died from an overdose of cool. Pat first started getting cool during the latter half of the Maladroit tour.
Supposedly he was introduced by Mr. Cool himself, Scott Shriner, who himself is, thanks to years of coolness, now too hardcore to die.
Insiders reveal that they fear Brian may be the next to OD, as he has admittedly become more & more cool...
Pay Day
Man is the measure? How 15th century. MONEY is the measure.
Horseradish!
Money means possibility.
TIME means possibility.
Time is money.
Transitive property, yeah. But once your needs are met, what does money MEAN? Every porcelain rabbit something else for your heirs to discard. Every story of your house another set of stairs to fall down. What does it mean that your golden swimming pool is filled with ten feet of cash?
It means I can use the diving board.
America
Although she feeds me bread of bitterness, And sinks into my throat her tiger’s tooth, Stealing my breath of life, I will confess I love this cultured hell that tests my youth! Her vigor flows like tides into my blood, Giving me strength erect against her hate. Her bigness sweeps my being like a flood. Yet as a rebel fronts a king in state, I stand within her walls with not a shred Of...

Tolstoy vs. Shakespeare
“I have, as an old man of seventy-five, again read the whole of Shakespeare, including the historical plays, the ‘Henrys,’ ‘Troilus and Cressida,’ the ‘Tempest,’ ‘Cymbeline,’ and I have felt, with even greater force, the same feelings,—this time, however, not of bewilderment, but of firm, indubitable conviction that the unquestionable glory of...

My favorite part of the Mass
is right before the Eucharist, when the whole church says, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.”
We admit that we’re inherently sinners, and therefore not good enough to reside in the place of eternal perfection that is Heaven. We never were good enough, and as long as we live on this corrupt and decaying Earth, we never will be.

It’s as if she’s found a treasure map of the universe, as if the incalculable secrets of life had all this time been buried and forgotten among the ruins of the Holy Roman Empire.

I got a 230 on a PSAT practice test, which I assume translates to a 2300 on the actual SAT.
Everyone and their dog is now signed up for weekly SAT prep classes, while the last time I took the SAT was for this talent search in 7th grade. I consider this a victory.
But there’s one question on the test that still irks me. It’s in the writing section, where you have to look at a bunch of...

Separation
In silence I arrived, and in silence I will leave. But in between, there is music- the sounds of modern innocence and teenage victory. It isn’t very loud, but it’s loud enough for me. I gently shut the pale-faced door that separates me from the songs of church and state and metroplex

So it turns out I really am sick
Which means you can forget all that responsibility and foresight BS I wrote below.
The impulsive throat
So I woke this morning at 4:30 to reread some short stories for an English quiz, and I had this terrible scratchy throat, as well as a fairly runny nose. My immediate thought was that I was sick from the rain and I should stay home from school.
I was ready to walk over to my dad’s room when I stop to ask myself: am I really that sick? Or is it just an excuse to avoid doing something that I...
